About Agarwood & Oud.
Agarwood (also known as Oud, Oudh or Aloeswood), is found in the Aquileria tree. It is the dark fragrant, oil-embedded wood that forms as a barrier to protect the tree from infection or scarring. Both agarwood chip and its oil extracts are also known as oud.
Oud oil is extracted from the agarwood through distillery. It is one of the most desirable and expensive perfume ingredients in the world, giving it the nickname "liquid gold”
Wild Aquileria trees are found in mountain rainforest regions of Southeast Asia. Because of their value they have been over harvested and are now endangered trees registered with Cities (Appendix II, 14) In the last decade planation’s have been grown to maintain the production of oud and protect the wild trees.
Agarwood oil does not only offer superior preservation qualities, but also exudes the most magnificent, ancient aromas. Steeped in history, these oils have been around for centuries, from a time when the Arabian trade routes carried exotic spices and scents across oceans and countries, between Africa and Asia. In recent times Western fashion culture has adopted the oil for use in luxurious perfumes and cosmetics, exhilarating the senses and awakening the past. Oud’s warm, spicy scent is unique and powerful, treasured, and desired by those who have experienced it. (? As a base sense and help preserve the hours that the sent lasts. Most Oud oils last days other than hours.)
Agarwood chip is burned for its unique, rich fragrance. It has been developed into incense sticks and shaped into jewelry and small carvings.
Our Agarwood & Oud.
Agarwood production in Laos is done through plantations supported by government who, since the early 2000s, has attempted to stop illegal logging of this protected tree species.
Agarwood is produced through a detailed process of inoculation, carving and distilling. We have formed partnerships with several local artisan distillers and can supplying unique ouds from the different regions, each with Laos’ distinct, animalistic scent and or lighter softer notes with Thai oil or Thai/Laos distilled blends.
Within our range we can tailor-make our oud to suite the clients’ needs. We also offer a variety of agarwood chips and incense sticks as per client request.
As far as we know, we are the first to grow Aquilaria trees in Africa. We are in the process of establishing plantations in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Our ambition is to provide a safe place for the species to grow and to create an additional unique oud aroma, the first produced from African soil. We eagerly anticipate these results! Patience is key though, as this will be some time from now as the trees are still very young. We hope that by then we would have also discovered several other African aromas that we can add to our collection.
Product range and packaging to be discussed and tailored to clients’ requirements.
